My concern is as we black IP's are we hurting our own sites and sales by not allowing legitimate users form those IP's to reach the sites.

Instead of blocking bots by IP, you might be better off blocking them by user agent string (that way, doesn't matter when the IP keeps changing, you can still block them)

The ^ symbol means the user agent STARTS WITH and | symbol is equivalent to OR. So any user agent that starts with ANY of the words in brackets will be diverted

You might not stop all of them this way but you could catch a good chunk

Well bots are not going to spend any money so it only burns up traffic.

Last year I was getting bots slow down my server every few months, this year it is every few weeks. Bots are ruining the online experience.
