When millionaires and billionaires flying around in their private jets to climate change conferences make me laugh.

Obviously there are going to be a few people like that but you'd be surprised how many of these rich billionaires offset their carbon footprint by buying carbon credits. Bill Gates, for example, is well known for it. Also people like Taylor Swift and even Sir David Attenborough. Can you imagine how many he has to buy ???TheButcher wrote: ↑June 17th, 2026, 6:30 pmWhen millionaires and billionaires flying around in their private jets to climate change conferences make me laugh.

Searching for that older thread here about cows farting increases methane and global warming can't find it, any one have that link.

Its true. Cattle are responsible for around 14% of human induced climate emissions and about a 3rd of our methane emissions. Its was a major topic at the UN Climate conference last year (COP30)fantastico wrote: ↑June 18th, 2026, 3:15 pmSearching for that older thread here about cows farting increases methane and global warming can't find it, any one have that link.
It doesn't mean we all have to stop eating beef or drinking milk. There's dietary additives we can feed to cows to reduce their emissions. There's also genetics, selective breeding and even cow masks LOL. Im not quite sure how the masks would work but it was on sky news a while back

"Cow burps have a big impact on global warming - but scientists think they've found a solution"
"A groundbreaking breeding programme in Scotland is proving so successful that the amount of the greenhouse gas produced by cattle when they belch or break wind could fall by 40% in just 20 years."

I think in this case, its just selective breeding. DNA tests show which cows will produce less methane and so they mate them with low methane bulls. They then use IVF treatment to produce 5 or 6 calves to surrogate mothers. Keep doing that for generation after generation and you end up with a whole herd of low emission cowsdom_trev wrote: ↑June 20th, 2026, 12:03 pmis this another way of saying genetically modified cows?tacnet wrote: ↑June 19th, 2026, 1:04 pm"Cow burps have a big impact on global warming - but scientists think they've found a solution"

Trouble is there are about 1.6 billion cows in the world so it needs to happen globally. This was one of the main topics at last years COP meeting

You need a lot more trees to combat all those gases being emittedDeSexGuide wrote: ↑June 21st, 2026, 5:24 pmPlant more trees they look good clean the air, problem solved let cows pass gas in peace.

Plus trees only work for half the year. During winter they shut down and their decay outpaces absorption so co2 levels start to go back up again

Similar thing with solar panels, in colder climates with a lot of snow they are useless in the Winter months.tacnet wrote: ↑June 22nd, 2026, 10:39 amA hell of a lot moreTheButcher wrote: ↑June 22nd, 2026, 10:20 amYou need a lot more trees to combat all those gases being emittedDeSexGuide wrote: ↑June 21st, 2026, 5:24 pmPlant more trees they look good clean the air, problem solved let cows pass gas in peace.![]()

Why I eat steaks, it reduces the number of cows that can exit gases that affect the climate.
