Hungarian leader Viktor Orbán is OUT. Major shift in global geo politics

Post by tacnet » April 14th, 2026, 2:11 pm

After 16 years of autocratic rule, the Hungarian leader Victor Orban is OUT. He was swept away by a landslide victory giving his opponent Péter Magyar an unprecedented two thirds majority

This result has far reaching consequences. Orban was "Putin's man in NATO". He continuously blocked Russian sanctions and continued to buy Russian oil. He also vetoed support to Ukraine as well as reportedly passing NATO secrets to the Russian leader

It's also a major slap in the face to Trump. Trump repeatedly endorsed Orban and even sent the vice president, JD Vance, to campaign for Orban just a couple of weeks ago. Much of project 2025 was based on Orban's system of government where he took control of the media, stacked the courts with right wing nationalists and changed the electoral rules to favor his party. All things that Trump is trying to emulate in America

I found that odd that Trump would endorse Orban and send Vance to campaign for him while others say Orban was a Putin guy. But what do I know.

Two things you want in politics term limits and maximum age of candidates.

"US President Donald Trump told ABC News on Tuesday that he liked Hungary's prime minister-elect, Peter Magyar, who defeated nationalist Viktor Orban, and said the newcomer was "going to do a good job."

Orban, who was backed by Trump and maintained close ties to Moscow, was ousted in Sunday's ballot after 16 years in power as voters handed a decisive victory to Magyar's Tisza party with a record turnout."

Now your president says he (Peter Magyar) newcomer was "going to do a good job."

JD Vance went spoke in favor of Orban and that did not make a difference in the end.

Just to expand on your statement tac, what will an endorsement by him do for candidates in the midterms, I think it will lead to the same results as Orban. The problem for republican candidates is they have to push forward a path to victory without alienating the maga base and at the same time not looking too close to the Orange man of war and tariffs.

Yep I agree. I think we will start seeing more and more republicans starting to distance themselves from Trump as the midterms approach. Already some of his biggest supporters like Megyn Kelly, Joe Rogan, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Tucker Carlson etc have all spoken out against him in the last few weeks.

Trump must know he is going to loose big time in the midterms which makes me wonder if he is going to go into it "willingly" or is he going to try and claim fraud or somehow invalidate the vote ?? Look what happened last time he lost ie. Jan 6th.

"Reality check comes early for Péter Magyar’s moderate voters, who have made themselves instrumental in the appointment of Hungary’s first LGBTQ activist, pro-Ukraine far-left education minister.
Despite Rita Rubovszky — a headmistress of a Cistercian Catholic school — being touted for days as the most likely candidate for the post, Péter Magyar has ultimately decided to reward his voters with a gender-activist appointee. The choice could generate some buyer’s remorse among parts of Tisza’s electorate, but the move is likely designed to desensitize society before even more radical woke policies are introduced.
However, with the appointment of Judit Lannert, Péter Magyar’s self-proclaimed image as a “right-wing conservative” is slowly slipping. The new education minister is a well-known gender and pro-Ukraine activist, also noted for her past anti-Orbán government stance."

The headmistress of a Catholic school is a LGBTQ activist what does that mean she's a lesbian?
