I think he's been thinking and hinting about this for years especially since returning to hi second term.

Trump doesn't seem to realize that NATO is a DEFENSIVE organization. We don't attack countries unless they attack one of us first. Ironically the ONLY time NATO's article 5 has been implemented was by the USA after 9/11

I don't think Trump is serious about pulling out of NATO. Firstly He has tens of thousands of US troops based all over NATO and, despite what Trump says, they are NOT there to defend those countries. It's to project US military power around the globe. Secondly it's well known the next flashpoint is likely to be the arctic and so he is going to need NATO countries like UK, Denmark, Finland, Sweden etc to help patrol those waters

The US is stronger WITH allies rather than without them

It's a treaty can he unilaterally pull out with 1 signature?

No he needs to get Congressional approval in the form of an Act or a two-thirds Senate majority vote, some EO will not suffice.

That's a good point. There's no way congress would agree to that

He’s just trying to get them to help him win the war in Iran or wants more money from them. My 2 cents.

So he starts an illegal war without consulting his NATO allies then tells them come help me out, they say no because it is a defensive alliance not an offensive one, he throws a tantrum.

Just great going.

It's not something he can do with an EO. It's a negotiating tactic in my opinion.
Stop looking for reps if they don't care why waste your time and traffic at their program, fuck that.

Firstly, it's worth remembering that the one and ONLY time NATO's article 5 was implemented was by the USA after 9/11. The USA called and NATO stood side by side with them in the war in Afghanistan

Secondly, despite what Trump says, NATO isn't some kind of protection racket run by the US. Instead it gives America a means to project its power around the globe. Take the Arctic, for example (which most analysts predict will be the next flash point). Via NATO America has access to Canada, UK, Finland, Sweden, Norway and Greenland all of which give it direct access to the Arctic. Without those bases, America would have NOTHING and Russia would have complete control over the Arctic

With the world edging ever closer to war, America is stronger WITH allies not without.
