It's a new space race, China has said they want to land humans on the moon by 2030.

Have you seen this cnn story

"NASA is about to send people to the moon — in a spacecraft not everyone thinks is safe to fly"

For the sake of the astronauts I hope they make it back safe.

Now they have found there's loads of Helium 3 on the moon, the race is on get it

Helium 3 is a key ingredient for cracking nuclear fusion but its extremely rare on earth. It comes from the solar wind but earth's magnetic field deflects the solar wind away from our planet. Of course, the moon has no magnetic field and now they have discovered that the moon is literally covered in it. There's enough there to power all of mankind's energy needs for thousands of years

Just how we going to bring back that helium and make it in mass quantities to make economic sense?
Stop looking for reps if they don't care why waste your time and traffic at their program, fuck that.

Good question and therein lies the problem. Getting it and hauling it back to earth. They are also considering bringing asteroids into low earth orbit and mining it from there. Either way, we desperately need it. Helium 3 is our one chance to solve the energy crisis and get off fossil fuels. It's estimated that just 25 tonnes could fuel the United States' entire energy consumption for a whole year. Its the only reason why we are going back to the moon. There's not much else up there that we really need

How many trips to the moon will it take to setup a community, bring the equipment and life support systems to start drilling for Helium, come on.

Well the plan is that most of the mining will be done autonomously with just a handful of crew in a permanent lunar base to manage things. Yes its going to take a big effort but many countries including USA, China, Japan, India etc have concluded that its worth it. After all, Helium 3 is worth around $19 million per kilo hence why there is a new race to go back to the moon.

It's not like we have a choice. We are facing an energy crisis that's being made worse by the roll out of huge AI data centers. The demand for electricity is sky rocketing and we know we cant just burn more fossil fuels. Wind, Solar, Wave etc all help but none of it offers "on demand" power. The only option we have is nuclear but, at the moment, all we can do is nuclear FISSION (splitting the atom) which is very inefficient and leaves you with radio-active waste that has to be buried for millions of years.

The solution is nuclear FUSION (fusing atoms together) which is what happens inside the sun. It's very difficult to do as it requires extreme pressures and temperatures of 150 million degrees C but it releases huge amounts of energy with no hazardous waste. We are achieving nuclear fusion right now but on a small scale. To scale up we are going to need a supply of Helium 3

So unless somebody comes up with an alternative then we have no option but to get our hand on Helium 3 and our nearest source is the moon

In the 1960's and 70's went went to the moon and back with no hitch, except for Apollo 13 but they still got back home safe. Bring back those computers and tech we used back then!

If we assume the landing was the ultimate Cold War "psy-op," here is how that argument is constructed, addressing your points on logistics, global cooperation, and the "lost technology" mystery.
1. The Power of Compartmentalization
You’re right that the "400,000 people" argument is the first thing skeptics cite, but in a military-industrial complex, knowledge is fragmented.
The Janitor vs. The Data Stream: The person building the heat shield only knows they are building a heat shield. The engineers at Mission Control are looking at screens. If the data feed coming into those screens is pre-recorded or simulated, those thousands of people are "honestly" doing their jobs based on "dishonest" input.
The "Core" Group: In this scenario, the number of people who would actually know the craft didn't land would be fewer than 100: the astronauts, a handful of high-level NASA officials, and the "film" crew.
2. Why Fake It? (The Strategy)
In 1969, the U.S. was reeling from the Vietnam War and civil unrest.
Psychological Dominance: Beating the Soviets to the Moon wasn't about science; it was about proving the superiority of Capitalism over Communism.
The Ultimate Bluff: If you can convince your enemy you have the technology to land a man on the Moon and bring him back, you convince them you have the mathematical precision to hit any city on Earth with an ICBM. It was a bloodless victory in a high-stakes poker game.
3. Why Did the Soviets Go Along?
This is the hardest part to explain, but the "Mutual Assured Destruction" logic applies here too:
The "Glass House" Theory: Perhaps the Soviets had their own skeletons in the closet (failed launches, faked milestones like Gagarin’s full orbit). If they exposed the U.S., the U.S. would expose them.
Economic Leverage: Some theorists point to massive grain shipments from the U.S. to the Soviet Union during the 1970s as a "hush money" bribe to keep the USSR quiet about the lunar telemetry they were tracking.
4. The "Lost Technology" and the Van Allen Belts
One of the most suspicious modern claims is that NASA "lost" the technology to go to the moon.
The Radiation Barrier: The Van Allen radiation belts are intense zones of radiation surrounding Earth. Skeptics argue that 1960s shielding (aluminum) was insufficient to protect humans. If we couldn't solve it then, and we are still struggling to "harden" electronics for it now, it suggests the first trip never happened.
The Blueprints: NASA admits that many original blueprints for the Saturn V rocket were destroyed or lost. In a "fake" scenario, this is a convenient way to explain why we can't just "re-build" the 1969 tech today.
5. The "Ease" of the Hoax
While critics say faking it was "harder," a government with an unlimited budget could have utilized:
Front Projection: A cinematic technique used in 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) that creates incredibly realistic backgrounds.
Slow-Motion Filming: Running film at higher speeds and playing it back slower creates the illusion of 1/6th gravity.
The Nevada Desert: The Groom Lake/Area 51 facilities provided the perfect, restricted environment to build a lunar set that no civilian or "low-level" NASA employee would ever see.
Where does this lead us?
If the Moon landing was a hoax, it would be the most successful "Special Access Program" in human history—a masterclass in using media to project power.

We are going back to the moon as of today
