So the BBC edited Trumps words to fit their narrative

In return Trump has suggested to put it mildly he would sue them $1bn.

Whether you like and agree with Trump or not, he is right on this one. How can a news organization cut and splice parts of a video to put the message out of context to make their narrative. This is 100% wrong, an apology is a start, a couple goof balls resigning is okay but if I was Trump i would sue the BBC so other news sites do not think it is okay to try fool people at the expense of another person.

I wasn't going to bring this one up but one of my friends here think Trump should let it go, no he shouldn't. If you are the news report it not cut and splice the video tape to make it seem the person said things he did not, it's all about the context. Sure they might have been his words but cut and stuck together to make the message appear different to the one he said.

Okay I got it off my chest going for a smoke and coffee.

Ok I agree with you that it was a poor edit and the BBC is publicly funded (ie everybody in the UK has to pay a TV license in order to fund the BBC) so they should be completely impartial

But this will NEVER go to court. One of two things will happen here :-
  • 1. The Government will put pressure on the BBC to settle but it would not be anywhere near $1billion
  • 2. Trump will back down. In order for it to go to court, Trump would have to go through the discovery process (sometimes called the disclosure process) where he would have to provide all the documents, telephone calls, emails and any other evidence relating to January 6th. Trump will never want to do that. Then he would have to prove that the BBC broadcast specifically cost him $1billion which is almost impossible to prove
One of Trump's tactics is to announce he is going to sure someone and he always slaps a ridiculous over-the-top price tag on it eg $10 billion against the Wall Street Journal, $20 billion against the CBS for their Kamala Harris interview etc. That's because he knows those numbers will make headlines. They have absolutely no bearing on the case or the amount he expects to get in settlement. As the saying goes, you can sue a ham sandwich for $10 billion but it doesn't mean your going to get it.

Almost every time Trump announces that he is suing some company, its because he is hoping that the threat is enough to make the company back down and settle. He knows full well that his case would NEVER win in court. He's basically shaking down universities, media outlets, law firms etc etc

What benefit did the BBC expect if anything?

Just think if this was the other way around and CNN had doctored some tape of their prime minister or King.

The British public will end up paying for it since funding for the the BBC comes from TV license fees

They will settle in the end, Trump made his point, I have not followed the story but they will settle.
Getting rich takes making money, saving a nickel will not make you rich if you never make the buck

So the BBC edited Trumps words to fit their narrative
