What to do I sold a link and a few days later got this email
which says the site I listed on mine uses "Stolen content" I have to remove it. My question is the sender is not claiming the content is his, do I avoid legal action just refund the link buyer his $50 or ignore the email.
I have no clue if the content on that site is stolen as he claims.

I am no lawyer and not pretending to be one so take this with a pinch of salt, I would ignore this email, unless it is an official DMCA. If I got an email from a person who is not saying they own the copyright or are authorized to represent the copyright holder and it was not set out as a dmca notification that's what I would do. You do what you want and I know I have to say seek legal advice but you already know that.

You can not be prosecuted for linking to a site that uses stolen content. If that were the case, every DMCA notice could close down half the internet. Not only that, think of all the sites say Google links to ??? Google can't be held liable if content on those sites is considered stolen
Ignore it

That first line should shut that person who emailed him. Just playing along with the person who emailed him, what if he can show you got paid to link to that site with copyright violation?tacnet wrote: ↑November 8th, 2025, 1:07 amYou can not be prosecuted for linking to a site that uses stolen content. It wouldn't matter. Even if they paid you for a link, it doesn't mean you have any kind of editorial control over the site. Think of the millions of websites that pay google for links/traffic. If Google could be held liable for any copyright infringements that their customers might commit then they would be getting sued pretty much every dayfappmaster wrote: ↑November 9th, 2025, 3:08 pmThat first line should shut that person who emailed him. Plus it sounds like the guy hasn't provided any proof of ownership so that's case closed in my opinion

If you get a bonafide DMCA notice then yes take down the link and refund him, until then forget about it.Abby wrote: ↑November 7th, 2025, 12:24 pmwhich says the site I listed on mine uses "Stolen content" I have to remove it.
