The state of web dev - how did we get to this?

i remember, many years ago, i'd create a php script, upload it to the server using ftp client - and it was live. php, sql, ftp was all that was necessary to build things.

fast forward to now: dozens of frameworks, hundreds of libraries, service workers, multi-tenancies etc. etc.

yet we still do the same things as back then - CRUD llf4532

Everything evolves over time and usually gets more complex.

I know exactly what you mean. You have to be a coder to appreciate how much its all changed over the years. When I started, it was all cgi written in notepad

Wordpress is handy if your running a blog but you can't do much else with it.

I used a few scripts in the day that required CGI, Autorank and centralads for example, a different time.
