IOC and banning trans women from female categories

So if a man transitions to a woman he can be stronger and faster than a natural born woman, is that what the findings came up with, who would have guessed. Live and learn.

"The International Olympic Committee has moved a step closer to introducing a blanket ban on transgender women from female categories across all sports.

IOC president Kirsty Coventry vowed to bring in the policy as part of her election campaign, and set up a working group on the protection of women's sport.

The IOC said that the review is "continuing its discussions on this topic and no decisions have been taken yet".

However, after a presentation by its medical chief, sources have told BBC Sport told that a ban is likely to be introduced in 2026.

Last week, the IOC's medical and scientific director Dr Jane Thornton updated its members as the organisation works through the details of the potential move.

As first reported by The Times, she revealed that initial findings of the science-based review suggested that athletes born male retain physiological advantages, even after reducing testosterone levels. BBC Sport has been told any blanket ban is unlikely to be introduced before the 2026 Winter Olympics, but could be brought in before the Los Angeles Games in 2028. "

I have to agree with you there.

Although I'm all for trans women having just the same rights as everybody else, the one area where that simply wont work is in sports. Obviously men are generally physically stronger than women and therefore there HAS to be segregation in sports

However, I honestly don't think this is as big an issue as Trump likes to make out. I know he says the "radical left" want to have men competing in women's sports but I don't believe that's true. I may be wrong but Ive certainly never heard any democrat campaigning to have men in women's sports. I think BOTH sides recognize that, when it comes to sports, there are physical differences that need to be taken into account.

I am with you on what you said and yes I think irrespective of gender we all should be treated with respect. A separate category for trans women in sports seems logical to me.

A separate category sounds like a good idea but then again, how do you define a trans woman ?? Is it just a guy who dresses like a woman ? In which case it would be wide open to abuse

In the words of Ted, there's no such thing as "chicks with dicks", there's just "guys with tits" r6d10k

Sorry if that's politically incorrect

Hmmm let me think this one out loud, what is a trans woman today, a man who had hormone and chemical therapy to be a trans woman. I know rather simplistic way to put it but that is it. Maybe some surgery thrown into the transformation I suppose. Cross dressers or guys who claim to identify as a woman would not qualify in either category. They need to be born a female and remained one for the womens category. Or be born a male and transitioned to a transwoman to qualify in the transwomen category (As in had hormone, chemical treatment grown some boobs).

I know that was too long winded but you get my point (I hope).

Yeah that's how I would see it too but its still a bit vague though. There would have to be specific criteria ie. swallowing a couple of testosterone blockers a few months before the games wouldn't cut it. You would have to have been receiving treatment for a few years or so. At what point would they stop being a man and instead become a trans ?? I honestly don't know what the answer would be to that one

Then, of course, there's the whole issue of someone who's had a full sex change. Are they then legally a woman and therefore should be allowed to compete in women's sports ?? Even though they would likely have more muscle mass than most women ?? Again, Im not sure there's an answer to that

I see your point but without sounding politically incorrect or anything I women's sports should be for natural born females period. It just seems unfair for a man who has transitioned or is in the process of transitioning to a transwoman competing in the womens category. It is quite clear cut for me. If trans women want to compete let them either come up with a separate category or do so in the mens category.

Actually that's a very good point. I hadn't thought about that. If they can grade disabilities for the Paralympics then they could grade transgender treatments for Trans Olympics

I agree with Butcher, when it comes to sports women should compete with women and men vs men

Men have no issues it seems to be a question for women and I do understand the concerns.

No matter your gender these participants train for years and sacrifice so much to be part of any Olympics think what this does to their psyche.

Women's sports and women's restrooms should be by my logic for biologically born women.
