Find the root cause of the slowdown, then worry about upgrading servers...
That might be the best advice on this thread. I still think you can find the same services for cheaper, and with great support staff and better bandwidth haha

Wordpress isn;t that heavy on resources from what I know, or is it.
It depends on how you use it. WP by itself with a default Twenty-something theme will load pretty fast. But, if you give me a couple lines of code, I can completely cripple it.. I stressed tested some servers once, the only one that held up til the end was a dedicated server from Mojohost, I'm not sure on the specs, though..
Different plugin issues, how the server is configured, optimizing fat code and code that causes high RAM usage for no reason (ex: Shuffle in PHP), plus a ton of other things can cause WP to slow down.

Caching can help a lot, too, depending on the type of site that it is.

Ram is cheap, 4 or 8 gigs on a dedicated server is not enough , you need a minimum of 16 gigs if you are serious.

Hello

1- is it a Dedicated Server or a VPS "Virtual Private Server"
2- whats the response time from your location to the server, if you have windows you can access the CMD and do a Ping test (ping domain.com) and to check if your connection is stable (ping domain.com -t)
3- Having wordpress is cool, but requires a lot of attention, wordpress, pulgins and themes most always be updated. You most have a solution for DDos Protection and Malware protection, main reason why your site is slow specially with wordpress "malware infections"
Your can check your site here http://sucuri.7eer.net/c/1210513/212721/3713 OR here https://sitecheck.sucuri.net/
4- After you have done all that go to https://gtmetrix.com/ and write your website domain, this website will tell you what you need to optimize to make your site faster (programing maybe need it)
5- if your traffic source is all around the world you should try CDN services to improve loading speed through continents.

My conclusion: 8GB of Ram etc. is not bad for a Dedicated or a VPS, (THE LOCATION is really important) a huge factor would be the response time from the server's location to where you are.

# On the other hand I'm assuming you're in a data center in Canada or the United States

Plugins and the theme do make a difference, this much I am certain.

My sites are mostly WP sites, when I click on them and my server is dedicated I am paying $127 each month on time, they take time to load. When I go to other peoples' sites just for example this forum, they load much faster. I click on the blog site here it is the same, it takes time for the site to open up, is there some magic or problem with my host or are wordpress sites slower to load.

What is taking them so long, haven't they ever hosted WP sites before?
