I watched his show last night and what Jimmy Kimmel said was that the previous 4 Presidents had all issued statements calling for unity, lowering the rhetoric, an end to political violence and a return to peaceful debate

Trump then followed that up with (quote) "We've have to beat the hell out of these radical left lunatics"

A couple of thoughts on this, first what happened to the First Amendment and free speech, can you no longer speak freely without getting cancelled because you do not tow the prescribed line of thought powerful people want you to stick to.

Second I was under the impression that stand ups, comedians and talk show hosts have lawyers that go over their material before hand. I have heard a few well known comedians say my lawyers told me to reword this phrase or joke.

Third and final thought "Indefinitely" off air is thee new way of saying he has been cancelled?

Colbert had the highest viewing numbers, so if he was fired the rest should pick up some of his audience, why not capitalize on that and make money.

Yep so true. What amazes me is how many institutions are caving in to Trump's pressure ? You've got TV Networks, Universities, Schools, Law Firms, National Parks and even the Smithsonian has agreed to remove displays relating to slavery after Trump complained about it.

They all know that Trump is vengeful and if you don't do what he wants, he will come after you. That's pretty much the very definition of authoritarian rule.

You cannot have the President of the United States able to control what the media can and cannot broadcast. That's what the first amendment is all about

This is exactly what Putin did when he came to power in the early 2000s. He attacked the media and now all independent media outlets have either been shut down or bought up by his rich oligarch friends

This was obviously a step too far for Trump and the FCC. Almost every legal scholar was telling Disney that, if this went to the supreme court, they would WIN !

You cant have the chairman of the FCC telling ABC (quote) "we can do this the easy way or the hard way" referencing sacking Kimmel. That is a clear violation of the first amendment

Good for Kimmel he did not deserve to get cancelled, he expressed an opinion, that is covered under our 1st Amendment.
