My girlfriend's dad has been diagnosed with alzheimers

He's 71 and he was diagnosed with Alzheimers, how fast can it progress and what can you do to slow it down. His wife talked him into going to the doctor because in the beginning she would think he was not paying attention and asking things he had already asked but she realized there might be more than just not listening. I noticed when at their home he would ask me how I was doing with my restoration of my car, I would tell him I have not touched it in months and a hour later he would ask me again. So how's that car coming along.

Oh one more thing he has Asperger's not sure if that is related or cause of his Alzheimers or if it will complicate it.

Alzheimers is a progressive disease, it is going to affect him in many ways. I have a family member with it for years she is in a home and does not recognize anyone.

It's just as hard on his family, look at Bruce Willis, he's going through a tough time.

Alzheimers is not just memory loss, the disease affects everything including your ability to eat, drink water and know when to go to the restroom, it is a nasty pile of work.

The sooner you catch this disease and any other disease the better, I hope he lives a fine life.

Depending on how far he is along the disease and how fast it progresses he can still have a few years of relative normal life style.
