No he's simply making things more expensive for the American people

You have to ask yourself WHY companies moved their manufacturing to places like China or Mexico in the first place ??? Answer is simple, the cost of labour is much cheaper in those countries.

If they move back to the USA, they might dodge the tariffs but the labour costs go up. Either way, the consumer ends up paying more. And that's not to mention the retaliatory tariffs that other countries will impose on USA products.

Nobody wins a trade war. That's why the world pretty much abandoned tariffs like 70 years ago

Tacnet is right and moving the factories back to the US will just lead to more inflationary pressure on wages hence prices will go up, my 2 pesos.

The importer pays the tariff and inevitably passes it onto the consumer. Tariffs simply don't work in today's global economy

Take shoes for example. Shoe manufacturing is very labour intensive so most big shoe manufacturers make their products in places like China or Mexico where labour is cheap. Trump slaps on a 30% tariff so the cost of importing those shoes goes up by 30%. But if the manufacturer moves his manufacturing to the USA to avoid the tariffs, then the labour costs will go up by 100%. Either way, the consumer ends up paying more

The world pretty much abandoned trade tariffs after the 2nd world war for exactly that reason

Here is how I view tariffs, the end buyer gets to pay for it one way or another.

Any economist will tell you that it's the American people who are going to be the ones that end up paying the tariffs

Just saw this one, trump is talking of adding a 25% tariff on all EU goods sent here. German cars will get even more expensive, shit.
