Do we really have to pop this shit? I thought as long as it's linked in the footer I'm cool.
Bill... here's a link to a handy little proxy that'll let you check sites from different locales: https://www.locabrowser.com

Not an attorney so this is my personal not a legal one; my take on it for what it's worth. I do not see the law requiring a pop but a disclosure and option for surfers to opt out. I can be wrong on my interpretation of this one.HeidiHoe wrote: ↑July 29th, 2018, 12:27 amDo we really have to pop this shit? I tought as long as it's linked in the footer I'm cool.

The way I read GDPR is that we are required to disclose in detail what we collect, for what purpose, why and with whom its shared, how its protected, how long its stored etc and that we are required to disclose what info we collected upon request. We are also required to erase data upon request providing such erasure does not conflict with other laws. That's it. Am I over simplefying this?

You sure you are not an attorney because you sure seem to have it down pat. You said it just about how I read this law.Not that I can say it that nicely after half a bottle of Jack my friend Daniels tonite.HeidiHoe wrote: ↑July 29th, 2018, 12:41 amThe way I read GDPR is that we are required to disclose in detail what we collect, for what purpose, why and with whom its shared, how its protected, how long its stored etc and that we are required to disclose what info we collected upon request. The EU Cookie law. Last I heard we don't have to worry about that unless we're in the EU. Am I right on this or did I miss something? I haven't been keeping up with shit as well as I probably should. So if I'm wrong on this please point me in the right direction.
Bill... if they want to opt out of your privacy policy you might as well just give them an exit link. Also, since your server most likely already collected some of their private data, opting out would be after the fact and I'm thinking would be more along the lines of soliciting an erasure request. Why go there?

Again no attorney just how I gather the law with my reading. You have to comply with the law for EU surfers not be in the EU. Can we get a clear answer on this from others please.

Agreed on the GDPR or risk getting blocked by EU countries. It's the cookie law we can disregard unless we are located within the EU. Or am I wrong? I've been ignoring the cookie law and haven't read up on it. I heard we didn't have to worry about it in the US and left it at that. Is this wrong info, do I need to read up on it?
