They need to abolish tipping and include the tax in the price

This tipping and tax added to the price of a meal has to be changed. We were out last night for dinner and drinks, my bill was $87.30, add the 15% tax then I tipped 15% the waiter gave me a dirty look.

Hey why do we tip some people and not others. I go a fast food drive thru there is no tipping, I go to a restaurant leave a 15% tip and have to get a dirty look.
I say include the tx in the overall price and do away with tips. This excuse that waiters get a low salary is not my problem. A business has to pay it's employees a fair wage. What is the deal if I sit down have my meal pay the price on the bill with taxes and don;t want to tip. Is it a crime nope so why the dirty glance when I pay another 15% to the guy to ask what i want to eat and go get it from the kitchen. Isn't that his job?

Or just let us give a tip, I liked it much better when a tip was not expected, you gave a tip for great service, now it seems some want the tip first and base their service on the tip, or they automatically include the tip on your bill and still want a tip, can't win, Canadian Chick ^^ hit the nail right on the tip 34ddww

I agree with this, you should pay your employees like any other business, why the food industry gets away with it beats me. As CC said you can't tip a franchise fast food employee, I have tried many times they flat out refuse it. In the UK for example the tax is already included in the price when you see restaurants say they have a "Service charge" that is basically the tip. You tip (Typically 10-15%) at restaurants without a "Service charge."

This excuse that restaurant workers get very low wages and you should tip is emotional blackmail. In addition it is unacceptable that the business owners pay their employees less and the customer has to pay the salary of the employees. The wage should be based on no tips, if you can;t afford to make money as a restaurant that is your problem. Third point there is a lot of cash in the business, not everything gets reported.

I have 3 friends that own restaurants, 2 of them are franchises, so I do not what I am talking about. One of them is very similar to "Olive Garden" for those who know what that is. He has a waiter manage 8 tables of 4-8 people per table. So lets say 8 times 6 on average that is 48 people at 8 tables. You go have a meal say $35 a head and 2 soft drinks at $5 that's $45 per person, let's not even count alcohol in this example for now.
The average table is occupied for an hour and a quarter so that means 48 x $45 = $2,160 every 75 minutes.
Let's take the 15% tax rate for this example that means $2,484 .

Shifts are 8 hours, and let's say for arguments sake they only fill the tables one time per shift and you tip the waiters 15% that comes to $372.60, or $46.56 per hour.

Let's say they get a round number of $5 per hour that mean going in for 8 hours only serving 8 tables one time makes them $51.56 an hour.

How many times have you walked in and the place is full and you have to either wait or make a reservation next time. This place like many you go in on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday without a reservation good luck getting seated for at least an hour.

The 2 biggest things that I hate most are.
1. When they take your order come back with the food and don't stop by at least a couple of times in that hour you are dining to see if you need anything or another drink.
2. Some places add the tip in the final price on the bill and the waiter still expects you to tip again.

Including the sales tax on the price is the logical way to do it. After all you are going to have to pay it at the cash so why add it when they scan the goods.

Fast food places here in California are not having a good time, the minimum wage increase has made it hard for them to stay open. You raise the minimum wage then you have to raise prices, people can not or will not pay higher prices.

You pay the check and that is it, never go back they'll spit in your food the next time if they recognize you. 5n9dd3
