Why is Elon Musk backing Trump so hard

#1

Post by Webby » December 12th, 2024, 9:21 am

Elon Musk makes and sells electric vehicles, Trump is not all in on ev's and might very well drop or reduce the subsidies and tax credits for ev buyers, how does Elon supporting Trump help him sell more Tesla's?

I think it is more idealogical and less business. On a business note you have a bigger market for Starlink receivers than people buying Tesla's :)

True but he makes bugger all money out of Starlink. It only generated a profit of $3 billion in 2023. Have to remember that only a small percentage of the world's population needs access to satellite WIFI and that number is dropping every year

God knows why Musk is supporting Trump ??. He owns the world's biggest EV manufacturer AND he has a huge manufacturing base in China. Two things that Trump has publicly criticized

But (and here's the thing) notice what Trump has done. He has put Musk and Ramaswamy as far away from central government as its possible to get. They are in charge of the "Govt Efficiency" department. A department that doesn't (and has never) existed, is unlikely to get anything done and has no say whatsoever in any policy decisions.

I think Trump just wanted Musk's support and has now stuck him somewhere where he cant do any damage

I had no idea how much money is in Starlink sales that was just a thought, your poiunt about EV sales and especially China is what made me think why would he go with Trump who is against ev's and everything Chinese. Interestingly enough Trump has put out an invitation to the president of China to attend his inauguration.

I can see this to be a motivating factor

But Trump has said exactly the opposite ???. He wants to end the mandate on EVs and he wants to slap HUGE tariffs on anything made in China. Tesla's biggest factory is in Shanghai, China and Musk is now building a new giant giga-factory there that will produce 10,000 lithium ion batteries per year

Thats true. Just after Trump's election the top 10 richest people in the world all got richer by around $64 billion and judging by Trump's cabinet picks, he is going to have more billionaires in his administration than any in history

He is way richer since Trump won so it might be a good business move to be associated with the incoming administration and nothing more.
