Why isn't SpaceX going to the moon and talking of Mars instead?

They are going to the moon. The first step to getting to Mars is to establish a fueling station on the moon.
The amount of fuel it took to get to the moon would fill 2.5 Olympic sized swimming pools and the moons only 4 days away. Mars is 6 months away so the amount of fuel required to get there would be so heavy that we would never get it off the ground. Instead the plan is to build a fuel depot on the moon's south pole where there's lots of water ice which can be split into hydrogen and oxygen (ie rocket fuel and breathable air). Then its a lot easier to launch from the moon as it only has 1/6th earth's gravity
I watch a lot of space documentaries LOL
