True. But being top dog is one thing and then there is having over 90% market share. Their nearest competitor isn't even in double figures and that makes Google pretty much the definition of a monopolyHosting Fred wrote: ↑October 25th, 2024, 9:09 am

Im not sure how they could break it up either ?? They might be able to separate Android, Chrome and Play into individual companies but that still leaves a MASSIVE search engine business that far outweighs any of its competition

Nothing has happened so far so who knows what they will do.All I care is my traffic stays the same.
Stop looking for reps if they don't care why waste your time and traffic at their program, fuck that.

I guess the real question will be does the US government want to break up one of its biggest and most successful companies ???
By rights, it should do as google is the very definition of a monopoly for those of you old enough to remember, this exact same thing happened to Microsoft back in the late 90s/early 2000s. In that case, Microsoft had no choice but to invest heavily in their main competitor (Apple) in order to increase Apple's market share and avoid Microsoft being broken up. I can see this case going the same way. Maybe Google will invest in Bing or some other search engine to spread the market share . Im sure they would much rather do that than see their company being broken up
Just my opinion

Sure I am all for competition but why break up successful companies, that is another question, you know one company will always rise to the top of it's field.tacnet wrote: ↑November 5th, 2024, 3:13 pmI guess the real question will be does the US government want to break up one of its biggest and most successful companies ???

Yep I would agree with you but the flip side of that argument is a monopoly is NOT good for consumers. Competition brings prices down and leads to innovation. A monopoly means that one company can do whatever they like, charge whatever they like and people have to pay it. Hence why we have a Monopolies and Mergers CommissionCanadianChick wrote: ↑November 5th, 2024, 3:16 pmSure I am all for competition but why break up successful companies, that is another question, you know one company will always rise to the top of it's field.tacnet wrote: ↑November 5th, 2024, 3:13 pmI guess the real question will be does the US government want to break up one of its biggest and most successful companies ???

How many of you remember Excite, Alta Vista and Lycos, they were the "Google" of their time in the early 1990's.
