The invasion into Kursk wasn't to hold territory. It was to force Russia to have to re-deploy forces from Ukraine in order to push them out and also (and perhaps more importantly) it was to demonstrate to America that Putin's final red line could be crossed and that his nuclear sabre rattling was meaningless.
For the last 2.5 years, Ukraine has been forced to fight this war with one arm tied behind its back because of Putin's constant threats to escalate. Thats why the west took so long to provide tanks, long range missiles, jets etc and each time these weapons have come with the caveat that they can NOT be used to attack targets inside Russia. So that meant that Russia could simply sit behinds its borders, massing forces and launching missiles safe in the knowledge that Ukraine couldn't hit back
Well now all that has changed. The UK and France have already said that Ukraine can use our long range Storm Shadow missiles wherever they see fit and now the US has agreed to provide long range JASSM Missiles that can hit targets deep into Russia. Finally Ukraine can start taking the war to Russia

This is from the BBC today, not a pro-Russian news site. The dumb idea by Zelensky or who ever thought taking the best troops and equipment to invade the Russian territory of Kursk region has totally backfired. They are not only loosing men in that fight but the eastern front lines are crumbling faster than flies can land on shit.
The Russian military will have the key city of Pokrovsk in days and the supply lines to the east aka Dombass will end.
Russian forces will march to the Dnipro river in no time. I still say they will stop at the east bank of the Dnipro and take Odessa call it a day. Someone has to tell Zelensky to make a peace deal yesterday everything he has tried has cost innocent Ukrainians their lives and lost big parts of his country.
"Pokrovsk is a key transportation hub. If it falls, then Russian forces will cut off one of the main supply routes in the region. This will likely force Ukraine to retreat from Chasiv Yar and the front line will move closer to Kramatorsk.
For Ukraine, this would effectively mean the loss of almost the entire Donetsk region, which the Kremlin has fought to capture since the beginning of their invasion.
The Ukrainian military admits that its incursion into Russia’s Kursk region failed to force Moscow to divert its troops from eastern Ukraine.
And some observers argue that this move, which certainly helped to boost morale among the soldiers, left the strategic supply route vulnerable to Russian attacks.
On Sunday, Russia claimed to have taken control of the village of Novohrodivka, just 10km from Pokrovsk. Kyiv has not commented but sources told the BBC that Ukrainian forces have retreated from there."

Do you honestly think that if Russia gets to the Dnipro river then thats it, Ukraine will just give up and we can all go home ? I dont think soTheButcher wrote: ↑September 9th, 2024, 9:21 amRussian forces will march to the Dnipro river in no time. Your right, the BBC is more independant than most. Worth watching their 3 part series called "The Zelensky Story". It shows how Zelensky came to power by promising to negotiate with Putin to end the war in the Donbas. In 2019, he won with 71% of the vote and one of the first things he did is fly to Paris for his one and only meeting with Putin. He tried to negotiate and end to the fighting but Putin simply denied it was anything to do with him (which we now know to be an outright lie)
Then in 2021, Putin wrote and essay which shocked the world. Boris Johnson described it as "like reading Main Kampf". In it Putin claimed that not only was Ukraine not a real state, but also the Baltic states and even parts of Finlad were all part of Russia. That sent alarm bells ringing throughout NATO and in response, Zelensky made repeated attempts to meet with Putin but was rejected. Even after the war broke out, Zelensky sent multiple deligations to meet with Russian diplomats to try and negotiate a peace but each time it was rejected
It was only after the Russian's were driven out of Kyiv and the world saw the massacre the Russian's had carried out in Bucha that Zelensky finally gave up negotiating https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bucha_massacre
This war is another false flag operation EXACTLY like Putin carried out in Georgia in 2008. There he invaded on the pretext that he was protecting Russian civilians in the South Ossetia region after they declared independance. Well now we know that it was actually Russian soldiers in Ossetia that first launched an attack on Georgia provoking a response from the Georgian military and thus giving Putin the excuse he needed to invade https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Responsib ... orgian_War

The river is a natural barrier, if the Ukrainians stop attacking east of it I think Putin will stop once he takes Odessa and cuts Ukraine off the Black sea. But this is a guess. If by the time the Russians get to the Dnipro Unraine does not stop attacking and sits down takes whatever Putin puts in front of them then they will march on west. This is now a take it or leave it scenario with Putin holding all the cards. All Zelensky has to decide is when has he had enough. If he is smart he will take anything they put in front of him, but he probably won't and he'll end up losing a good portion of Ukraine to Russia and I still think the Poles have ideas to go take the western parts that was theirs. Poland is just waiting to go annex part of the west.

"Russian President Vladimir Putin this week issued an ominous warning against the U.S. and its NATO allies and said they risk being "at war" with Moscow if Ukraine is allowed to use long-range weapons to hit targets inside Russia.
Ukrainian President Voldymyr Zelenskyy has been pushing the U.S. and NATO for months to remove any and all restrictions they have on Kyiv’s use of Western-supplied long-range weapons and permit it to hit military targets deep in Russia.
But Putin on Thursday drew a red line and said, "This will mean that NATO countries, the U.S. and European countries are at war with Russia." "

Poland is one of Ukraines biggest supporters. It's provided ove 4 billion euros in security assistance to Ukraine – heavy tanks (including the Leopard tanks), Mig29 fighter jets, combat helicopters, air defense and much more. They've also taken in nearly 2 million Ukranian refugees, officially declared Russia a terrorist state and back in July, they signed a joint security agreement with Ukraine. They are even preparing a Polish Ukranian Legion of several thousand volunteers. They are not now going to stab all those volunteers, and the rest of NATO in the back by invading Ukraine

This is like the red line he drew if we provided long range missiles. Then another red line if we provided tanks. And another if we provided jets and yet another if his country was invaded. ALL his red lines have been crossed and this one will be tooshoopa wrote: ↑September 13th, 2024, 1:01 pmIs he bluffing?

This war would have long been over if the west had not been cowed by Putin's red lines and threats to escalate and instead put every missile, tank and fighter jet into Ukraine from day one.

If we were at war with Mexico and another country gave Mexico weapons, intelligence and long range missiles to strike at us. Do you have any doubt we would not strike at the country giving Mexico those weapons?
If we gave them all we have to do is not announce it and say we never authorized Ukraine to hit deep in to Russia, why make us part of this war.

Not when the country giving those weapons is part of the world's biggest military force by far ie NATO. Russia wouldn't dare attack us and he knows it.ricco wrote: ↑September 13th, 2024, 9:13 pmIf we were at war with Mexico and another country gave Mexico weapons, intelligence and long range missiles to strike at us. Here is the ironic thing about this. Russia has just taken delivery of 200 Iranian made long range missiles to attack Ukraine with. And now they are trying do draw a red line if anybody supplies Ukraine with similar weapons

The war will be over when Trump is president in January. He'll tell both sides to end it.

It's a short clip on AFP , so Starmer along with Lmamy and some others went all the way to Washington DC, held a meeting with Biden & co cam up with no final decision.
I think Biden who say what you will is still the elder statesman in that meeting ( I honestly say that with all due respect) told Starmer. "Look boy you want to give the okay for deep strikes into Russia go ahead, I do not want my country and bases nuked. I think Vlad is not joking with this red line."
Starmer and his band of merry men went back home tails between their legs. I hate to say this but the UK has not had a real effective Pm since Maggie thatcher.
Credit to Biden for making the right call.

We did not tell Ukraine to go and hit into Russia which might be a good decision, why escalate this war where we might get involved into a hot war with the Russians.
