That's looking to be true, I don't buy for one minute the Russians did not see the Ukrainian troops and vehicles build up on the border, I think it is a trap to lure the best Ukrainian forces in and demolish them.

If this was a trap, they would have closed it by now. This is extremely embarrassing to Putin. He's been caught off guard and he has no choice but to try and retake this ground. Remember the last person to invade Russian territory was Hitler in 1941

Its also a big risk for the Ukranians. Obviously they dont plan to hold this territory indefinitely but they will force Russia to re-deploy its forces from the Donetsk region. Its also a positioning tactic for any future peace negotiations. If Putin tries to force Ukraine to give up land for peace, then they can trade this territory for territory in Ukraine

I misunderstood brassmonkey, I thought he meant the population of Kursk region are Ukrainians.

Putin will probably just throw waves of un-trained and ill equipped soldiers at this territory and he doesn't care how many he looses. This has been his tactics for the last 2 years and his losses are truly STAGGERING

He invaded Ukraine with 300,000 troops and around 3000 tanks. So far his suffered appx 450,000 casualties and lost around 3,100 tanks.

So in other words, every single tank he sent in has been wiped out and he's had to raise TWO armies so far to keep up with the losses.

And these are not Ukrainian figures (they put the losses at around 550,000 casualties). These are from UK, US and French intelligence and many other news organisations like Forbes etc

In the last 2 months alone they have lost 70,000 troops and they are currently loosing around 1,000 a DAY !

Put it this way, in the 3 month battle for Avdiivka, they lost more troops than they did in the decade long war with Afghanistan
