do I have sleep apnea

My girlfriend's mother has been diagnosed with sleep apnea,she has been given a portable oxygen tank to use when she goes to bed. Her breathing stops 23 to 27 times an hour they did a sleep disorder test in the hospital, shit is serious.

Many people (including myself used to think) sleep apnea was a case of not sleeping long hours, it is more than that.

Is it hereditary or comes out of no where because I do not have it but sleeping is a problem.
