Hi friends I just got an email from my host, they want to change my server, is this okay to say yes to.

Code: Select all

Dear Valued Customer,

We hope this message finds you well. As you may be aware, CentOS 7 has reached its End of Life (EOL) with WHM/cPanel. Consequently, WHM/cPanel can no longer be installed on CentOS 7 or any other version of CentOS, and security updates for both WHM/cPanel and CentOS 7 will no longer be available.

To ensure the continued security and stability of your services, we recommend migrating to AlmaLinux, a robust and secure alternative.

Key Considerations for Migration:
MySQL Compatibility:
AlmaLinux is incompatible with MySQL 5.7. If you choose to upgrade to AlmaLinux, please note that we will not be able to assist with code adaptations required for this database version. We strongly recommend planning your database migration with your developer to avoid any disruptions.

PHP Version Support:
AlmaLinux supports PHP versions starting from 7.4 and above. Any PHP version below 7.4 is not compatible with AlmaLinux. Please ensure that your applications and codebase are compatible with PHP 7.4 or higher (With your website developer) before requesting the migration.

Actions Required:
Review and Upgrade Your Codebase:
Before proceeding with the migration to AlmaLinux, please ensure that your applications are compatible with PHP 7.4 and MySQL 8.0 or higher. CentOS 7 and the WHM/cPanel versions you currently have installed support newer MySQL and PHP versions, which should be leveraged to ensure compatibility.

Schedule the Migration:
Contact our support and billing teams to initiate the migration process. This process involves setting up a new server order. Once the migration is completed and you have confirmed that your data was moved successfully, you will need to place a cancellation order for your old server.

Important Notes:
• Security Implications: Your services will not cease to function if you choose not to migrate. However, they will become increasingly insecure due to the lack of security updates.
• We will provide you a new server with Alma Linux + WHM/Cpanel installed.
We will migrate your data from the old server to the new.
Any adaptations to your website’s code or your Database codes will need to be adjusted by you and your Developer.
We understand that migrations can be complex and challenging. Our support team is here to assist you with any questions or concerns you may have. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us at any time.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Best regards,

How I read it you need to have your host upgrade to PHP 8 at the same time since 8 is already out, check if your scripts will run on 8 first.

Eventually you will have to make the upgrade, new scripts will not function on the old setup. Some thing to keep in mind.
