Louisiana has become 1st US state to mandate the Ten Commandments in every public school class room

My understanding of the Unite States is that religion and government are to be separate,is this correct, so does this new law in Louisiana stand up to that rule.

https://globalnews.ca/news/10576378/lou ... rooms-law/

"Louisiana has become the first state to require that the Ten Commandments be displayed in every public school classroom under a bill signed into law by Republican Gov. Jeff Landry on Wednesday.

The GOP-drafted legislation mandates that a poster-sized display of the Ten Commandments in “large, easily readable font” be required in all public classrooms, from kindergarten to state-funded universities. Although the bill did not receive final approval from Landry, the time for gubernatorial action — to sign or veto the bill — has lapsed.

Opponents question the law’s constitutionality, warning that lawsuits are likely to follow. Proponents say the purpose of the measure is not solely religious, but that it has historical significance. In the law’s language, the Ten Commandments are described as “foundational documents of our state and national government.”"

No where in the US Constitution does the phrase "separation of church and state" appear. The concept comes from the very 1st Amendment of the US Constitution.

The First Amendment of the US Constitution says "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion."

Which means the First Amendment prohibits the government from creating an official religion or favoring one religion (or nonreligion) over another.

I'll bet my bottom dollar this is going to make it's rounds to through the courts all the way to the US Supreme Court.

The law has been challenged in the courts how do you seer this ending.

"BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Civil liberties groups filed a lawsuit Monday to block Louisiana’s new law that requires the Ten Commandments to be displayed in every public school classroom, a measure they contend is unconstitutional.

Plaintiffs in the suit include parents of Louisiana public school children with various religious backgrounds, who are represented by attorneys with the American Civil Liberties Union Foundation, Americans United for Separation of Church and State, the Freedom From Religion Foundation and the New York City law firm Simpson, Thatcher & Bartlett.

“This display sends a message to my children and other students that people of some religious dominations are superior to others,” said the Rev. Jeff Simms, a Presbyterian pastor who is a plaintiff in the suit and father of three children in Louisiana public schools. “This is religious favoritism.”"

Not every body is into religion or views the 10 commandments in the same positive light. Let them keep this out of schools one less reason for arguments.

Mandating the 10 commandments in public schools will not fly, the Constitution is clear, no official religion. How I see it.
