"NEW YORK (AP) — Donald Trump was held in contempt of court Tuesday and fined $9,000 for repeatedly violating a gag order that barred him from making public statements about witnesses, jurors and some others connected to his New York hush money case.

Prosecutors had alleged 10 violations, but New York Judge Juan M. Merchan found there were nine. Still, the ruling was a stinging rebuke for the Republican former president, who had insisted he was exercising his free speech rights.

The ruling came at the start of the second week of testimony in the historic case. Manhattan prosecutors say Trump and his associates took part in an illegal scheme to influence the 2016 presidential campaign by burying negative stories. He has pleaded not guilty.

Trump was joined in the courtroom by his son Eric, the first time a family member has attended his criminal trial."

The logistics of the secret service having to be with him would have beena. nightmare, but it would have boosted his poll numbers through the roof, if I was him I would break the gag order again to have it happen.

Trump is destroying American's belief in their institutions and that is a very dangerous thing.

First he says that the media is all "fake news", then he claimed the 2020 election was rigged and now he's claiming the judiciary system is all "fake" aswell

Even though in western democracies, we have a free press so their are hundreds of different media organisations most of which have a very negative view of Trump (especially here in Europe). Ontop of that there has never been a single shred of evidence that the 2020 election was rigged. Indeed, Fox News had to pay nearly £1 billion in compensation for spreading lies about the election. And as for the judiciary system, to believe that all these judges and jurors have decided to forgoe their sworn oaths in order to take part in some kind of witch hunt run by Biden is just laughable. The whole point of the judiciary system is that it is completely seperate from the political system

When people loose faith in their democratic institutions then anarchy is sure to follow and perhaps even a civil war
