I honestly cant see why this should cause such an uproar. It looks to me like she has just used one of the refining filters on photoshop (perhaps to improve skin texture, lighting etc) and sometimes they do mess up like that.

The palace who supposed to have released the family photo made a big time pr blunder not checking it out, and they threw Kate under the buss by having her release a statement explaining she is a lousy editor.
