SCOTUS ruled for Washington state barring conversion therapy for minors



"The Supreme Court on Monday let stand a Washington state law prohibiting licensed health care professionals from practicing “conversion therapy” – a scientifically discredited practice intended to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity – as it applies to minors.

Critics say the practice – which attempts to convert people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning – into straight or cisgender people, causes serious emotional harm and can have deadly results.

The practice ranges from psychotherapy to medical and faith-based methods that can include talk therapy, hormone or steroid treatment or faith-based consultation.

The vote was 6-3, with Justices Brett Kavanaugh, Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas publicly saying they would have taken up the case."

The right decision for a very simple reason, you can not change the way individuals see themselves. You are born the way you are, you either like the opposite sex or your own sex or something in between. I like women that's who I am, I have friends who like the same sex as themselves, that's who they are. No one should try to manipulate or change the way another person is. When will people stop trying to think we are all born one way. My way of thinking is, the same as it is when people tell me I am wrong for being an atheist, here goes. I don;t tell you to be like me and don't tell me to be like you, every one has the right to live the way they choose.

I hear this argument for individuals who want an abortion and it is not legal in their State, they can go to another state or country get the abortion, but it is not that easy. Not everyone can afford the expense of travel and staying away for a period of time to get a procedure.

Have to agree there. And this story about a Texas woman who had to leave the state to get an abortion after her baby was diagnosed with a fatal health condition and doctors advised her that giving birth would risk her future fertility just about sums up everything that is wrong with politics in America these days https://edition.cnn.com/2023/12/11/us/t ... index.html

Imagine the trauma this woman must be going through. Not only to loose her child but to have to travel out of state alone (anybody that helps her can be prosecuted) for the procedure. And then to spend days recovering in some hotel room
