The only reason we are doing it AGAIN now is because China has said they are going to do it
Why would they mine metals on other planets with probes ??? Think of the cost of hauling that all the way back to earth (not to mention the complexity)BrasSmonkey wrote: ↑September 3rd, 2023, 2:49 pmthey can't get it right to keep things alive... weird they never tried to mine metals from the planets with probes.
NASA and ESA have planned the Mars Sample Return Mission but thats only going to bring back a few grams of material. Its going to take 3 spacecraft, the Mars Perseverance rover (which is already there) to collect the samples. A lander to pick them up and an orbiter to bring them back to earth. And its going to take another 10 years to complete
All that just for a few grams of material so you can see why they are not mining metals on other planets
Believe it or not ALL the planets throughout the universe are made of exactly the same stuff (just in varying quantities). We know this to be true because we can analyse the light spectrum of all the other stars and we can see that they are made up of the exact same 118 elements that we have here on earth.
Astronomy / Cosmology is a bit of a hobby of mine
