What gets me about this is how Putin calls it "the international LGBT public movement".......and the key word there is "INTERNATIONAL"

Putin has long ranted about the decadent west and how we are a broken society of (quote) "homosexuals and paedophiles".

He says 'We are battling the West'. The battle with LGBT people fits in with this anti-Western rhetoric. Fighting both the West and the LGBT community will be popular amongst the conservative, anti-Western part of society.

This can ONLY happen in an dictatorship. If people are given the freedom to vote then this kind of bullshit would never get through
