I don;t see that happening any time soon, you really think China will allow Taiwan to hold a referendum to become independent let alone a US territory, they have said it, if Taiwan moves to independence they will use force to stop it.
Hong Kong seems to have done alright as part of China, nothing mush changed for the worse, I can see Taiwan living in peace as part of China and carrying on with the way of life they have. Why have a war when the out come will be the same. There is no way China will let Taiwan go, period. China has the world's largest naval force now, you think it will be easy for any country to send their war ships to the region and fight China, they will bomb ships as they get close.

Sorry can't agree with you there. China promised Hong Kong 50 years of political freedom after the handover but within a couple of years Beijing began cracking down on their freedoms causing the mass protests we have all seen. In 2020, Beijing imposed a sweeping national security law on Hong Kong. Since then, authorities have arrested dozens of pro-democracy activists, lawmakers, and journalists; curbed voting rights; and limited freedoms of the press and speech.

Many countries (including here in the UK) are advising extreme caution when travelling to Hong Kong because of this new security law
