To disable the automatic updates, add the following code snippet in the wp-config.php file.

To access the file, you can use File Transfer Protocol (FTP) or the File Manager in your web host’s cPanel. You can look for the file in the public_html folder. Fine point but too much work for me to then go update all my WP sites and plugins, I'll take my chances. If you have one or two blogs this is practical when you build blogs every week it is purely impractical.
