I think everybody knows it was Russia. They are the ones that benefit from the dam being blown because it prevents Ukraine from being able to launch an offensive along that southern border. Means Russia have a shorter front line to protect. Also Russia was in control of the dam at the time

It wont last for long though. Apparently the water will drain in a few weeks

I think everyone knows it was not them, just the same as they did not blow up Nordstream 2. Here is the simple fact why they did not blow up either. They spent billions and finished the pipeline, all they had to do was turn off the tap stop the flow of gas. The dam they control the area, they spent time and money building canals to Crimea to supply it with water, why would they devastate and harm their own people. All they would have to do if the intent was to flood the surrounding areas was to open the flood gates.
Oh you just proved my point by this line.

Why blow it up when it will not be an effective barrier after a few weeks.

Case closed.

Sorry but dont agree at all

Russia is on the defensive right now, waiting for Ukraine's counter strike. It was likely that Ukraine would attack in the south to try and cut off Crimea but by blowing up the damn, Russia has stopped Ukraine in their tracks AND they halved the length of the front line. They can now concentrate their soldiers along a much shorter front line in the north

Opening up the floodgates is not enough to do that. Floodgates are simply not designed to release that amount of water. Plus its not their own people they have flooded. Most of the flooding is on the Ukrainian side

There is nothing but downside for Ukraine by blowing up this dam. All the benefits are with the Russians so I honestly cant see why Ukraine would do it ?? If anything its caused them a major headache

As for Nordstream 2, we are never going to know for certain but its worth remembering that Germany (and the rest of Europe) had already pulled out of the Nordstream agreement so that pipeline was NEVER going to be operational. We warned Putin that if he attacked Ukraine then we would cancel Nordstream 2, which is exactly what happened.

Its also worth pointing out that the pipeline was destroyed one day before Poland and Norway opened the Baltic pipeline bringing gas in from the North Sea. There was no benefit to Ukraine or the west by blowing up a pipeline that we were never going to use anyway

For everyone who thought sanctions were the best thing since sliced bread well the numbers tell otherwise.

Yes but things are now changing according to the news yesterday. Russia benefited last year from the hike in oil prices as the west sought to de-couple itself from Russian energy.

Now the west has succeeded and things are going in the reverse direction. The west is now seeing interest rates falling and their economies picking up again. Whereas Russia announced a whopping 3.5% interest hike yesterday in an attempt to prop up the rouble which is falling rapidly. This aint over yet
