Gross over simplification. It's an image sharing platform that's it's main thing but what it also is is a community/social media site - basically this will be a smaller scale version of what happened to Tumblr in 2018, there are surprising amounts of traffic to be had from imgur at present, and there are thriving and surprisingly large and active "public groups" centered around adult content, as well as individual feeds timelines and albums shared subscribe to followed liked and commented on, it's pretty much Tumblr without the link only or text based post options, that gives do follow backlinks....
So no, it's not the same thing as imgbb or anything like that... Although if you're only familiar with the name and nothing else I could see why you would think that
