Wikipedia in UK might be blocked
"Wikipedia will not comply with any age checks required under the Online Safety Bill, its foundation says.
Rebecca MacKinnon, of the Wikimedia Foundation, which supports the website, says it would "violate our commitment to collect minimal data about readers and contributors".
A senior figure in Wikimedia UK fears the site could be blocked as a result.
But the government says only services posing the highest risk to children will need age verification."

Some laws just happen to be in good faith but end up hurting sites that they never intended to hurt.

They would NEVER block Wikipedia. The uproar would be huge. Whatsapp have also said they will not bother complying with this
This is the 3rd time Ive seen the UK government try and police the internet over the years. Each time they get right down to the wire and then realise it simply wont work. They are already watering down this bill. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-64258424
They fail to realise that they only have durastiction over sites hosted in the UK. They cant fine sites hosted in USA, Europe, Far East etc. so they are left with a choice of either blocking half the internet (and the public simply wont tolerate that) or scrapping the whole thing. And with the rise of VPNs, its all pretty meaningless anyway
Lets face it, none of us want kids looking at our content but the ONLY way to stop them is from the parental controls on their device

Yep I hear what you are saying but I think if a democracy tries to block sites like Wikipedia and whatsapp, the uproar would be so huge that they would be voted out of power and their policies reversed
