" Minimum bid $20 million USD
with a minimum of $10 million paid immediately in cash upon closing "
A bit too much for an opening bid if you ask me

I think they set the minimum price too high at 20 million dollars and not too many potential buyers jumped in on the auction.

"The domain name sex.com, once the most valuable domain on the internet, is for sale again.
Most recently sold for $13 million, the owners hope to sell it for at least $20 million this time around.
Minimum bids are $20 million, but only $10 million needs to be paid upfront. Bidding will run from now until January 31."
"Bidding starts on 18 January 2023 and ends on 31 January 2023"
And here we are Aril 20th 2023 the link is still active.
Is it safe to assume it never sold?

Someone over there needs to get the page down or updated it.

Do you like what they have up on sex.com?
I think it is not done to make the full potential of that domain.

Here is a hypothetical idea, some body said let's sell sex.com and put it up for auction, the price was unrealistically high and they did not get the offer they were hoping for, so they gave up.

At the right price it can make sense to have a cams site on the domain, it will be huge.

They keep saying it is "the most valuable domain on the internet" every time it goes up for auction, yet low and behold, every time it changes hands the same thing plays out:
yet another extremely wealthy owner with way more than enough financial backing to turn it into an enormous Cash cow provided they meet the unbelievably low threshold of:
having slightly more than mediocre businesses sense and
willingness to hire literally anyone worthy of calling themselves an SEO -
and ultimately after paying these obscene sums of money for that domain name, time and time again the result ends up being a boring mediocre Pinterest knockoff site with terrible /borderline pathetic and incompetent SEO met with lukewarm response from visitors who will probably never return, and the only marketing I've ever seen alternative for the site ive personally ever seen being limited to the hype around how much that domain was sold for....
So ultimately then use boils down to some other Rich douchebag is probably going to buy this site for an obscene amount of money and do nothing productive with it again because with great gobs of money like that to throw around comes great douchebaggery

People pay insane amounts of money for art work, paintings, classic cars and even domains. It is not always because they believe the item they are buying is a deal, they need to spend money if you know what I mean, I am not saying this applies to sex.com but there is more than one reason people will over spend on a thing.
