Wow I had no idea I just came across Judge Napolitano's video on YouTube about this decision, he says the maximum prison sentence for an involuntary manslaughter case is 18 months. That really surprised me another day another new piece of information learned.

Innocent until proven guilty I can not see him being found guilty of it by a reasonable jury of people. It was an accident and that is it.

What I recall from the news reports when this happened is that this was Alec's production and that the SOP was sloppy. Corners were cut, personnel wasn't qualified, etc. They might not hold him responsible for the actual mishap, but they might hold him responsible for what led up to it.

"In New Mexico, involuntary manslaughter is a fourth-degree felony punishable by up to 18 months in jail and a $5,000 fine, according to a press release. The other involuntary manslaughter in the commission of a lawful act charge is also a fourth-degree felony punishable by up to 18 months in jail and up to a $5000 fine; since a firearm was involved, this is punishable by a mandatory five years in jail"

Assuming he is found guilty let's break this down.
Fine of $5,000 is nothing for him.
Up to 18 months in jail can be 0-18 months and that time will fly so fast if he gets done for it.
The "Firearm" charge of 5 years mandatory is the hard pat.
We will see what happens.

Update to this story, and good news for both Alec Baldwin and armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the charge that could have got them 5 years is no longer on.

The Santa Fe District Attorney's Office announced Monday it is dropping the gun enhancement charge -- a crime that would have carried a five-year sentence if convicted -- against Alec Baldwin in the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of "Rust" in October 2021.
Baldwin still faces a charge of involuntary manslaughter for the shooting, however, that crime would carry a lesser sentence of 18 months if convicted. The amended complaint was filed late Friday.
The charge was also dropped against armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who faces the same involuntary manslaughter charge as Baldwin."
