You might want to read and follow this one. My educated gut feeling is online porn will not be banned, extreme porn should be banned and be criminalized.

Christ, did I just go back in time? Back when I put my first site up, it was recommended to include some non-pornographic content that could get you passed the Miller test. Also common practice was adding a warning to the index page because of COPA (child online protection act).

Obscenity is in the eye of the beholder. It's probably as easy to legislate as morality is.

I'm okay with requiring website labels for mature content, but that's it. Hold the damn parents responsible for what their brats do online.

COPA and COPA2 all the drama we went through and we are revisiting the same garbage all over again, go figure. This time round the issue is the SCOTUS is heavily right leaning conservative types.

We've had the same thing here in the UK over and over again

A while back it was called ATVOD. Basically they were going to block ALL porn here in the UK unless the user could prove that they were over 18. Either by uploading their drivers license/passport (who the hell is going to do that ??) or buying a "Porn ID card" from the local newsagent. Again, nobody wants to do that either

What usually happens is the politicians realise that nobody wants this as over half their voters are men who regularly surf porn. Ontop of that, the rise of VPNs means that whatever they do is going to be pretty much meaningless.

But the main thing is they realise that if they try and censor the internet in a democracy then they will be out of office in a heartbeat.

No democracy in the world has succesfully censored the internet (apart from illegal stuff like child porn, bestiality etc). Its not like twitter or facebook which are private companies and can do what they want.

The only countries that do censor the internet are autocracies like China or Russia.

If my memory serves me right wasn't it Mindgeek that came out with a card to become compliant with ATVOD which it was already using in Germany, but ATVOD flopped.

Yeah mindgeek was one of them that came out with a "porn card" system but there were others. Can you imagine walking into your local newsagent and asking for a porn card ?????

We wasted thousands of dollars getting setup with mindgeek's system. Then right at the last minute, the government realised it wasnt going to work and canned the whole idea

Mind you, mindgeek wasted a lot more money as they went out and bought a company to handle the back end card authorisation.

All for nothing !

Before ATVOD it was the BBFC. That's the British Broadcasting Federation who are responsible for rating cinema or TV movies as PG, 15, 18 or whatever

In its wisdom the government decided that the BBFC should also rate internet videos. Any video without a rating would be blocked here in the UK

In the first 24 hours the BBFC were bombarded with something like 20 million videos to rate so that very quickly died a death too

They just dont think these things through lol

COPA caused a lot of sites to require age verification at the time, then they reversed that move when it failed. There is no place for so much censorship in the free world. This will fail just as past efforts to censor free porn online.

You're right. I forgot all about the AVS sites. I used to have an Adultcheck and several Cyberage sites. The tour pages had the nipples blurred out. Those were the days!

Even cavemen drew porn images on the cave walls, this is so ridiculous that any body believe porn will disappear.
