My understanding is they can detect duplicate images if the name of the image is the same, not if you change the image name. This has been my understanding all along.

When it comes to images, I believe its due to the meta information contained in the image metadata. I always use some online tools before using images I get from the net.

Write original blog entries you are in the clear. Stop using rss feeds would be my 2nd advice.

i don't know, but if you do google image search for similar images, you can get pages and pages of the exact image appearing on different pages ... eg:

https://www.google.com/search?tbs=sbi:A ... 04&bih=752

Always change the name of an image, let's say you buy a set of images and they are a.jpg b.jpg.... change them to a random name so when others buy the sets and upload it, you do not have the same image name on your site too.
