Well, I've started out as a content writer, and SEO was the next logical step. It turned out to be fun as well, so I've decided to learn as much as possible and apply that knowledge, although the learning part is a never-ending cycle I'm fine with it because I find it interesting.
There is a real lack of true SEO specialists, that's one thing I've learned over the years, no matter the industry. Some of them know the basics, other are only selling backlinks (or applying backlinking techniques), or researching keywords, etc., which is hardly enough to deliver proper results. Also, here's a tip, if anyone is calling themselves an SEO "guru", run, just run as far away from them as you can.
The essence of it is that I like marketing, and SEO is the part that I'm passionate about. It's a bit of technical knowledge, some content writing, a bit of HTML, a lot of thinking, and when you produce some results it's incredibly rewarding.
Every industry is a bit different in the approach you take, and I know for a fact that the majority of the adult industry is horrible with SEO. There is so much untapped potential, which is why I've decided to do it as a personal project and eventually ditch my day job, I don't like having a boss over my head.
