It's not worth the effort, links from subdomain to main domain will be treated as interlinks, not as backlinks from one site to another, even though subdomains are generally treated as separate sites. SEO-wise you might see some tiny benefits, but they're negligible. Overall it's better to set up a PBN properly if you need backlinks that require minimum amounts of money and some work (assuming you haven't already done that).

Use subdomains for white labels instead.

LustXSEO is replying, IMHO, only to SEO value of subdomain redirects. There is zero benefit from redirects of any kind. Unless you are using a 301 to update an old URL to a new URL. Which is NOT this discussion.
Internal links are very very important. I have taken over many sites and increasing internal links has greatly increase pageviews, conversion rates and immediately increased SEO rank and impressions. Immediately, I mean as soon as Google crawls the site and registers the new links.
Subdomains used as links on other sites, like forums are considered backlinks. I use subdomains to control my backlinks.
I log into my DNS and update the redirect anytime I want to update the link. I never use a link directly to an affiliate program on a site I do not control. I use subdomains.
Check out how I used subdomains in the post.
https://www.sponsorchat.com/viewtopic.php?f=155&t=6357
Should this affiliate program ever go bad I can update these subdomains and rescue all the traffic.
I can also should the affiliate program go GREAT, update these subdomains to be actual sites for this affiliate program.
Your plan of use determine if this is a good idea or not.
LustXSEO is correct if you are using the links on your main domain to your main domain. Still, internal links are great.
Effort requires knowledge and planning to be worth while.

This link covers subdomain, sub directories and multisite
Does not cover redirects.
I think the article is poorly written and a little misinformation, but only the same reason Joe Rogan does not get everything correct.
This page is very confusing and only covers a very limited use of subdomains. Just cause other people got it wrong does not mean they did it correct and it did not work.

Drawback Of Using Subdirectories
None.

bull shit. first con subdirectories are seen as the same site. so if you are selling sub domain with pro sites from wpmudev, then subdirectories are shit and subdomains are king.
PRO subdomains are seen as different sites. when not redirects to the same domain.
also see my post above about redirects and URL control.
Consider Elon Musk and rocket ships and batteries.
He broke the project back to their basics and rebuilt without he BS issues everyone else created, by doing it the same way.
This is why he is so successful. He did not go to a forum and ask the average user if and how it would work. He started from the basic and figured out a better way.
Effort requires knowledge and planning to be worth while.
I make good money with and have great control of over my subdomains.

I wasn't talking about redirects at all, and also the OP asked whether or not it's valuable for a blog site to set up subdomains purely for SEO, or in this case for backlinks to her blog site. As I've explained he doesn't gain backlinks as in links from one site to another because those links are treated as interlinks, and setting subdomains purely for the reason of getting a few interlinks is a waste, he can do that by interlinking his blog posts.
I agree with your stance on interlinks, they are valuable and can have a big impact on rankings. Also, wow, nice thinking of you to use subdomains for links to affiliate programs, that's really, really smart.
Anyway, no hard feelings, I just think that there's some misunderstanding going around, since the way I understand it, she wants to use subdomains because she thinks they're going to create backlinks. If she had something valuable on subdomains (a whitelabel, video store, etc.), then interlinking is a no-brainer, other than that, it's not worth setting them up without any other goal than getting interlinks.
Abby, correct me if I'm wrong, just so I know if I've made myself look like a fool or not

my writing/communication style can be considered and is often very confrontational/rude/childish/etc. Even If and when I insult and curse, I am just playing around, this is a forum, so do not take this serious.
I already like you and agree with what you have shared/mostly. I do think you answered a different question and possibly then still did not get 100% correct.
so yea no hard feelings and misunderstanding are what create better conversations when we politely discuss them. something I find difficult to get across, all the time. fuck since childhood my mouth has gotten me in so much trouble, and because the other person did not comprehend the words coming out of my mouth.
Learn how analytical I am.
This thread started with this.
"Hi is this a good idea to setup dozens of subdomains forward them to my WP blog posts"
Forwarding is by definition redirects. So alone the subdomains have no SEO value at all as forwarding/redirects are no longer listed by Google. That stopped in 2012.
There is SEO benefit when google finds your subdomain, say here on this forum, then follows to the real page and crawls the actual page. google does see that subdomain as a 301 redirect/backlink.
As far as the link being a back link well that is determined where the subdomain is posted. I do not see that backlinks was part of the question. I do see how you could see it would be.
Googlebot follows redirects and passes Pagerank across them. Links that redirect normally would count as back links and help SEO.
Googlebot likes 301 Permanent type redirects best. This is how most subdomains are forwarded.
So using a subdomain with a 301 redirect is good practice and google will follow them. if they are on your site then they will be internal links, if they are on a 3rd party site, they will be backlinks.
To confirm and please explain more to me especially if you think I am wrong.
The question was not about back links or internal links, just 301 redirects. as I see forwarding as 301 redirect and are they worth the time.
Just creating the subdomains with forward is NOT worth the time. Most SEs could give a hoot less about this time of subdomain.
Using them as links on and off site. Has the exact same value as another 301 redirect would.
The bonus is read above about controlling subdomain links over time. I used the example where I use subdomains to control affiliate links.
and thanks @LustXSEO we need a bit more professionalism here and you are bringing it.

Don't worry, I didn't take it as an insult, I like a good discussion. Yeah, maybe I'm wrong about the original poster and their intent behind the question, but the way it's worded made it seem to me like, as I've said earlier, she planned on gaining backlinks, but now that I've read it a few more times it might not be the case.gotonudecom wrote: ↑February 10th, 2022, 2:20 pmLet us get something very clear.lustxseo wrote: ↑February 7th, 2022, 6:19 pmI wasn't talking about redirects at all, and also the OP asked whether or not it's valuable for a blog site to set up subdomains purely for SEO, or in this case for backlinks to her blog site. Either way, I think we can agree that creating subdomains whether it's purely for internal links or redirects is not a good idea. That page needs to be indexed, have some SEO value, or backlinks so link juice (pagerank) is spread over to the main domain. Which, again, wouldn't make much sense since link juice is diluted based on site's authority, baclink relevancy and a bunch of other factors.
What you're doing is how it should be done, use subdomains with a purpose, build something on them that differentiates from the main domain's content, but keep it at least loosely related, gain backlinks on the subdomain, and create a link to the main domain, a win-win situation. Or, you know, use subdomains to control affiliate links like you're doing.
When it's all said and done, I like your approach to business, so I'd say we're on the same page.

Here is my take on subdomains and directories they both get picked up by Google, so whatever works for you is the way to do it.
