Emirates passenger was taken into custody in Dubai for drinking a glass of wine on board
If alcohol is illegal a country, which it obviously is in Dubai, why would their national carrier or any airline flying there serve it on an inbound flight to the country.
Hell the best part of flying is to have a couple of drinks on the flight, this is one messed up situation if you ask me.I feel for the lady and what she has gone trough.

Emirates, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, perpetually ranks among the top airlines in the world. On Emirates, the world’s largest operator of the giant Airbus A380, the wine flows freely as part of the first class experience. Even in economy, you can “choose from our list of complimentary wines, beers, hot and cold drinks throughout your flight.” But did a free glass of wine served by Emirates contribute to the July arrest and jailing of dentist Ellie Holman and her four-year-old daughter in Dubai?
Dubai is a tourist destination known for its luxury shopping, a mall where skiing is possible, recreation areas and ultra-modern architecture like the 2500-foot high Burj Khalifa tower and the fabled fountains at the Dubai Mall. And with 88 million arrivals and departures, Dubai (DXB) is also the world’s busiest international airport. Less well known is the fact that alcohol is strictly controlled in the Emirates.
On July 13, Ms. Holman, a Swedish citizen living in Britain with her family, flew from London with her daughter for a five-day holiday in the Gulf. But when she got off the plane in Dubai, an immigration officer questioned her visa and demanded to know if she had consumed alcohol.
Holman admitted she had been served a complimentary glass of wine aboard the Emirates flight. Holman said she did not know that it was considered an offense to film the encounter, nor did she understand that it was illegal to have consumed alcohol in Dubai (the wine on the plane.) She was reportedly subjected to a blood alcohol test, and had a reading of 0.04 (half the 0.08 BAC where one is considered ‘impaired’ for driving in the US). She and her daughter were immediately taken into custody and had their passports and phones confiscated...."

This seems kind of ridiculous, she probably was not even buzzed with a reading of 0.04. Besides, the plane was the one that gave it to her for free, the airline should have paid bail, which Im sure is an absurd amount of money in dubai. Maybe a tad over the top for the immigration officer, drug smugglers in Colombian airports probably get treated better than she did.

Not a nice way to treat visitors to your country for a small infraction

If a passenger is offered a free drink, most adults would take it, that is how i feel. How are the passengers to know that one drink can get them into legal jeopardy.

This is not nice of them. It appears the airline has some responsibility here.

I would rather be in her shoes than the passengers who got sick on one of their flights.

It’s a nightmare scenario for the global age: You’re on a plane and passengers around you come down with coughing and fever. This is apparently what happened on an Emirates Airline flight from Dubai to New York’s JFK Airport, which had to be quarantined upon arrival for part of Wednesday morning.
But exactly how many are sick? There were conflicting estimates flying around: Emirates said “about 10” while the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention this morning put the number closer to 100.
While the details are still fuzzy, here’s what we know so far:
What we know
The 14-hour Emirates flight originated in Dubai at 3:20 am local time, and had about 549 passengers and crew on board.
The CDC was notified this morning that there were “passengers, including crew members, complaining of illness including cough, fever, and symptoms of gastrointestinal illness.”
The double-decker plane landed in New York just after 9 am, and was greeted by ambulances, fire trucks, and health officials.
CDC public health officers, along with local officials, checked all 549 passengers and crew members on board. Here’s a photo from one passenger, Larry Coben, of people getting their temperatures taken as they left the plane:,,,,continues....
