Odds are another platform would take it's place. Perhaps Joomla!. It's easy to use once you get used to it. Right now there's way more plugins for WP making it the choice with way more options.

Without WP perhaps there would be less webbies, less competition, better rankings and more money in the pockets of those that can code and run a site. Plus there might be more money making opportunities in slapping up sites for those who can't.

If WordPress did not exist or was not free, there would be others coding similar platforms.

If it makes sense to have multiple categories and you have the posts to fill them, getting niche is not a bad thing.

Right, categories are mostly for broad things that you'd usually see on a top bar/menu. Like straight/gay/kink/lingerie/trans/etc. Then tags would be the smaller things like hairy/heart nipples/amateur/cut/uncut/shower/etc.

The tags in my example might be better as a category on someone else's blog, too. It depends on the content and the focus of the blog.

Some of my blogs had/have 2-3 categories, some have hundreds. It all depends on what it is.

My 4 little blogs have 5 each. I am wondering what you think I should name the default category.

That depends on the blog. Uncategorized category should be renamed to something that won't look unprofessional or like an accident if you accidentally make a post without setting a category. Sometimes you'll use the default regularly, sometimes you'll just want it as a catch all for missed posts. On blogs that are site specific, I like changing the default to the site name. Other blogs use things like misc, general, etc.

I'm a believer in niche sites and marketing to niche audiences, so going deep into micro niches is a goodvplan of action.
