Why would you need privacy on a domain name?

FYI, Years ago when I tested across several of my clients using privacy, we removed privacy settings and saw an increase in SEO rankings for the majority of the (single) sites.
The sites we did not see increases where the one that where using massive links between their own site on the same IP range. The customers ran more than 5 sites each.
With that said we also saw an increase in SEO ranking as we divided these same sites between many hosting companies and left the privacy policy in place, while also changing the domain registrar.
The biggest increase was removing the privacy setting, using different names address, phone numbers as the registrant and using different hosting companies.

Their is evidence that Google does watch both domain registrants and IPs.

In my experience privacy can bad for your SEO. Do not use it unless you need it. I can think of no reasons you need it.
