6,361 new cases, yesterday and 30 new hospital cases. Major announcement coming today at 6pm, looks like a 2 week closure of all non-essential stores and a 10pm to 5am curfew province wide.

The UK released the first two studies of Omicron (outside of South Africa) today. One from Scotland and one from UCL London
Both seem to suggest that you are up to 70% less likely to need hospitalisation with omicron vs delta which ties in with what they are seeing in South Africa
The numbers are alarming though, we recorded another record breaking day here with 120,000 new cases in a single day. Before omicron we were around 40-50k a day

I noticed the steep rise in UK numbers, if all that is being reported on the severity of the disease caused by Omicron is true, this variant might be the beginning of the end of the pandemic. It will create massive herd immunity and not too many hospital cases or deaths.tacnet wrote: ↑December 23rd, 2021, 4:19 pmThe UK released the first two studies of Omicron (outside of South Africa) today. Jesus not so good a news for boosters is it.
"Booster protection against symptomatic COVID-19 caused by Omicron lasts about 10 weeks, data shows.
It may mean fourth doses in 2022 — depending on whether protection holds against severe COVID-19."

"British data
The data presented by Colfax is one of a number of early reports, and other reports show different numbers. Early data from Britain, for instance, show that vaccine effectiveness against symptomatic infection from Omicron is 88% shortly after the second dose of a Pfizer vaccination, falls to 34% about six months after the second dose, but rises to 76% after a booster shot.
By comparison, the British data show that, against Delta, vaccine effectiveness against symptomatic infection was also 88% shortly after the second dose of a Pfizer vaccine, falls to 64% about six months after the second dose, and then rises to 93% following the booster."

Not much protection 6 months after the 2nd dose is there?

My friends boyfriend has had covid-19 twice now, how can you get it twice if you build up antibodies when you get it the first time.

Before Omicron it was very rare for anybody to catch covid twice. I caught delta and thought I was in the clear afterwards but Omicron changed all that.webcamhostess wrote: ↑December 27th, 2021, 1:09 pmMy friends boyfriend has had covid-19 twice now, how can you get it twice if you build up antibodies when you get it the first time.
The anti-bodies you get from delta or alpha are not enough to stop you catching omicron. Even being fully vaccinated and boosted only gives you around 70% protection from catching omicron last time i looked
so you can still catch it but having the antibodies (either from a previous infection and/or from vaccines) means you are much less likely to get seriously ill. I think the figures were something like 90% less likely to be admitted to hospital

I can not see how we all won't all get infected with Omicron, the rate at which it is spreading is unbelievably rapid.

There is a new article this morning that they might announce a 3 week curfew form tomorrow night, 9pm to 5am. That should make everyone happy on New Years Eve lol.

As of tomorrow no private gatherings, no restaurants, and a curfew from 10pm to 5am, there goes New year eve gatherings in Quebec. But I support these restrictions, the cases are over whelming the hospitals.
Other measures are schools will close until 17th of January. Indoor sports are a no no.

More updates for the following 3 Sundays businesses will be closed in Quebec. Places of worship will have to close except for funerals where there can be 25 people.
