how is it right for the cops to stop a driver for no reason

and check for alcohol use when the driver has done nothing wrong. I heard on the radio today that in Quebec the cops will have a campaign to stop and check for alcohol even if a driver has not done anything wrong. This seems unfair. Montreal is in Quebec if you do not know.
It's Christmas , people go out drink , office parties, why ruin it for them.

Well I could argue both sides of this.

Let me give it a shot, drinking and driving does impair the ability to drive safely. It does lead to accidents, injuries and death.

Is it right to randomly stop people for no reason, if it helps reduce accidents and death sure I have no issues with it. You're not supposed to be over the legal blood alcohol limit when you operate a motor vehicle any time of the year.

Tickets make money for the city, so they have an incentive to try give out more tickets, let's be honest.

Guess what cab companies, public transport and other cab services must love this, more business for them. Not to mention insurance companies that will bump up your premium.

It's the same here in Cali especially on big holidays. I got a speeding ticket at 1am on Thanks Giving this year.
