what if you eat and don't tip
Is it a crime. I went had a sandwich today and diet pop, the bill was $17.45 I didn't want to break a $100 bill so I left a ten , a five and all the change I had in my pocket, total was $18. the water followed me out the door said how about a real tip. I am not usually this cheap but I didn't want to break the $100 , is it right to be shit faced over a small tip. When you order a meal at a restaurant, is that all you are responsible for or am I missing it here.

The majority of the income for waiters is form tips, most work for minimum wage if that, so if you get good service then be fair and generous, but if the service sucks well that is another question. My idea of good service is the water comes by at least twice during the meal asks me if I need anything, when I have to keep looking around for him or her to ask for another drink or something that is not good.

If that is really the case then any reasonable person would understand.

I think you could have been more generous and pai with the hundred dollar bill and left say $4 tip.

Many places in Montreal add the 15% tip to the bill when they bring it to you.

If it makes you happy then go for it, I wouldn't leave without a fair tip for the service.
