One thing this war has done is accelerate the global drive to renewable energy. Countries can see the risks of relying on imported gas and oil so the more they can reduce it, the better. That's where China comes in
China has spent the last 10 years building itself into the renewable energy superpower and now builds an astonishing 80% of the world's solar panels, 65% of the world's wind turbines and 75% of the world's batteries. Believe it or not, 70% of all EVs sold globally come from China !!!!. Just saw those figures on CNN
Trump has handed the world to China on a plate !

A day before a 2nd round of talks in Pakistan, great idea piss off the other side at a time when we want them to agree to our peace deal. Why not wait to seize a ship if the talks went no where tomorrow.Who thinks the same way as I do on this ship thing now of all times?killah wrote: ↑April 19th, 2026, 4:04 pmhttps://www.cnn.com/2026/04/19/world/li ... ump-hormuz

Good news for now the BBC is reporting president Trump has extended the ceasefire. I really think Pakistan is working over time to prevent more death and destruction, credit to them for trying.
"Trump says he will extend ceasefire with Iran and continue blockade

President Donald Trump says the US will extend the ceasefire with Iran, at the request of Pakistan, and continue the blockade of Iranian ports.
Here is his statement on social media:
Based on the fact that the Government of Iran is seriously fractured, not unexpectedly so and, upon the request of Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, of Pakistan, we have been asked to hold our Attack on the Country of Iran until such time as their leaders and representatives can come up with a unified proposal. I have therefore directed our Military to continue the Blockade and, in all other respects, remain ready and able, and will therefore extend the Ceasefire until such time as their proposal is submitted, and discussions are concluded, one way or the other. Time to talk and reach an agreement is a mature thing to do, hat off to your president for avoiding another killing spree.TheButcher wrote: ↑April 21st, 2026, 4:37 pmGood news for now the BBC is reporting president Trump has extended the ceasefire. I think this is going to be a case of "who can take the most pain" ?? Unfortunately Iran doesn't have to worry about elections or mid terms or anything like and so it looks to me like they have the most leverage

I believe the president needs to get Congressional approval after 60 days who have the power to declare war. By my count it will be 60 days on April 29th since the US initially struck Iran on February 28th. So will Congress stand up and do their duty or let it slide. What do you guys think?

My guess is they won't do a damned thing. Congress is supposed to set tariffs too but the squeaker of the house, Mike Johnson just lets Trump do whatever he want's. Whilst Republicans have control of the house, Congress won't lift a finger.TheButcher wrote: ↑April 26th, 2026, 8:07 pmI believe the president needs to get Congressional approval after 60 days who have the power to declare war. It will be a whole different ball game once Democrats take control in November. Then we will see subpoena's, investigations and undoubtedly impeachment trials

Stocks are making money for some
"NEW YORK (AP) — Oil prices whipsawed on Thursday and surged toward their highest levels since the war with Iran began, only for the leaps to quickly vanish. The U.S. stock market, meanwhile, is gliding following more strong profit reports from big companies like Alphabet and Amazon.
The S&P 500 rose 0.2% and inched closer to its all-time high set earlier this week, as companies continue to deliver stronger profits for the start of 2026 than analysts expected despite high oil prices and uncertainty about the economy. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 342 points, or 0.7%, as of 9:35 a.m. Eastern time, and the Nasdaq composite was 0.2% higher.
Alphabet helped lead the way and rose 6.7% after the owner of Google and YouTube reported profit for the latest quarter that almost doubled analysts’ expectations. Amazon added 1% after likewise blowing past analysts’ expectations for earnings."
