Two things affect your bounce rate. The quality of your traffic and your page layout. You cant do much about the quality of your traffic but you can focus on your page layout, in particular your page load speed.
I see so many websites with slow page load speeds and that bumps up your bounce rate. In turn, google sees that you have a higher bounce rate and reduces your SEO traffic. Its the one thing that can kill a website before it even gets off the ground
My advice (and google recommend this too) is to use https://pagespeed.web.dev/ . You want green across the board on both desktop and mobile

Optimize images to not slow down your load times, saves time and bandwidth plus a very simple idea.

Good advice.
Use .webp instead of .jpg (and definitely NOT png or gif). Webp are less than half the size of jpg and are supported across all major browsers

A lot of this will depend on your traffic source. SE traffic is obviously best but if you've got people popping or blind linking to your site then your bounce rate will be sky high
Also the landing page is key. I see a lot of sites throw everything at the front door (or worse still the join page) and hope it sticks. But if the user has clicked a link that says something like "Click Here for Big Boobs" and the page he gets to isn't showing him big boobs then he is likely to close it. That's why we have thousands of different landing pages so affiliates can target their traffic to maximize click thrus. It really makes a hell of a difference
