Greenland the 51st state might come true

#1

Post by CanadianChick » January 13th, 2026, 9:56 am

Just now I saw this on yahoo.ca

https://ca.news.yahoo.com/house-republi ... 43834.html

"Jan. 13 (UPI) -- Republican Rep. Randy Fine introduced legislation Monday authorizing President Donald Trump to take measures necessary to acquire Greenland, amid renewed White House rhetoric about taking the autonomous Danish island.

The Greenland Annexation and Statehood Act, which is anything but assured of passage through the House, would give Trump the power to take the island, including through annexation, and require a report to be submitted to Congress detailing necessary changes to federal law to admit Greenland as the 51st state.

"Whoever controls Greenland controls key Arctic shipping lanes and the security architecture protecting the United States," Fine, of Florida, said in a statement."

The foreign minister made a couple of statements on Greenland

"Malta will not be rushed into taking a position on the row over US President Donald Trump's wish to take over Greenland, Foreign Minister Ian Borg said on Monday.

“Given that there is no common [EU] position [on Greenland], I ask why Malta should be presumptuous and be the first to pronounce itself, especially when you consider the fact that Malta is not part of NATO,” Borg told journalists.

“NATO and the Secretary General of NATO have not even pronounced themselves on this discussion,” Borg added."

A few European countries have come out said they'll send troops and stuff to protect it, they are out of their minds, we can walk all over them if we chose to do so.

Your not seeing the bigger picture. Denmark is a member of NATO. If Trump attacks a NATO ally and occupies part of its territory then that is the end of NATO. Trump will have done exactly the same as Russia has done in Ukraine and we will be back in a world where "might is right" and its ok for stronger countries like Russia and China to take over their weaker neighbors. Just how long do you think it would take for WW3 to break out ???

And anyway, this is NOT about national security. The USA had 17 air bases in Greenland after the cold war but they abandoned all but one of them. Greenland has said its more than happy for the US to re-open and even add to those bases as it sees fit. From a military standpoint, the best way to protect Greenland is to keep it as a member of NATO.

No, once gain this is about the natural resources available in Greenland. Trump has already taken Venezuela's oil and now he wants Greenland's rare earths and he's prepared to use force to get it

New tariffs on European countries announced

"President Donald Trump said Saturday the United States will impose new tariffs on several European countries unless a deal is reached for the purchase of Greenland, escalating his long-running push for US control of the Arctic territory.

Trump said Saturday he will impose a 10% tariff on “on any and all goods” from Denmark, Germany, the United Kingdom, France and other countries starting February 1, increasing to 25% on June 1, until an agreement is reached. "

Not even going to discuss whether taking over Greenland is right or wrong, that is another discussion. I just can not see how putting sanctions and tariffs on countries especially friendly ones helps the USA. It is only pushing them towards non-friendly countries and making therm look more reliable trade partners. Plus it is making countries think twice about doing business in US Dollars.

Yep totally agree and, as if to confirm what you are saying, in Nov 2025 China announced a 1 TRILLION dollar trade surplus. The first country to ever do so and that was just in the first 11 months of the year. The reason is clear. China is doing a LOT more trade with the rest of the world as countries look for a more reliable trade partner to replace the US

Trump is not going to invade Greenland he will threaten countries with tariffs (which he did a couple days ago). Europe and all the people against him taking over Greenland will cave and stop fighting against it.
Just call me Joe it is my name after all

"Donald Trump links Greenland pursuit to failure to win Nobel Prize"

"US President Donald Trump has linked his pursuit of Greenland to his failure to win the Nobel Peace Prize in a message to Norway’s prime minister.

Trump told Jonas Gahr Støre in a text message that “considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize . . . I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America”.

The US president added: “The World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland.”
