I know exactly what you mean. You have to be a coder to appreciate how much its all changed over the years. When I started, it was all cgi written in notepad

Wordpress is handy if your running a blog but you can't do much else with it.
Not wanting to start something with you, however. Wordpress is a GREAT place to do almost anything.

I have helped clients build Wordpress sites since 2003 and many have made millions using Wordpress.

Their is no limit to what can be done with Wordpress. All the redundant work is done.
If you have the budget and skills to NOT use Wordpress, great! Tac, obviously has those skills.
Less expensive way to get a business started and own the site. If it works and you make enough money, then you can invest in a custom platform.

I timed myself the other day. 26 minutes. I purchased the domain, pointed to my server, installed wordpress once the DNS updated, installed SSL verified it worked (three times.. fn SSls. LOL!)
installed a theme template, contact form and create the default pages, terms, about, etc.
26 minutes.
the plugin I just installed has a usage limit. 5 per 15 minutes, unless you are a member of the site then it goes to 10. Admins have no limit.

I did not have to build into my program membership functionality because it is included with Wordpress.
Sure you can use shopify or wix or whatever, but then you have little control and you do not own the site, core.

The things I make wordpress do.
Bikker does not like it because it gets hacked. it gets hacked because of bad owner, webmaster, programmers etc. but mainly due to its popularity.

Had an opencart site hacked last week. they got in with a username and password then upload some malicious code.

For Tac's usage, experience with wordpress and budget I completely agree that he should not be using wordpress.

In support of Wordpress they come out with updates as soon as they notice a potential source of trouble.

If you do not implement the most recent updates you are shooting yourself in the foot.

People never get to their goals or make real money because they give up when things are not going well.

The web is a money making machine if you have some thing to offer that people want they will pay for it.

Sorry only just seen this. Yes I have to admit, I am NOT a wordpress expert so perhaps saying it was only good for blogs was a little unfair of me. When we started, wordpress wasn't even a thing r6d10k

I tend to agree with Bikker. We have as little "off-the-shelf" software as possible because it does get hacked. Wordpress itself might be updated regularly but the plugins aren't. We found several plugins that were open to exploits and the authors simply didn't bother to update them

Plus Im not sure just how much Wordpress can do ?? For example, our network has a CMS system for the public and members areas (both of which I know wordpress can do), but then we also have the Affiliate System with full stats tracking, payout requests, keyword rich URLs and thousands of landing pages etc. We also have a webmodel admin system where the girls can track their signups, traffic, updates, payouts etc and controlling it all is my backend management system. All of it we've written from the ground up

Maybe Im wrong but Ive not seen any of the big memberships sites (eg faphouse, brazzers, naughty america etc) using wordpress for their sites and I guess its because they have a similar setup to us and wordpress just isn't the tool for the job

As I say, Im no wordpress expert so this is just my opinion

I completely agree.
WordPress has a lot of great PROs and only a few cons for an off the shelf CMS. It is powerful and easy to integrate with.
For example, my most recent project WordPress has been installed twice. One handles the memberships and the second will be strictly content for the site. None of the core functionality is WordPress. The core validates membership with WP end of connection. AS long as I do not go crazy with plugins on in the content installation all should be great.
As for the plugins. I love to find good abandoned plugins and make them my own. Under the GNU General Public License I can take and modify the plugins however needed. Including security, which I am required to do when I create my own.
The popularity of WP and the availability to download all the plugins and find their weaknesses is a con. Also a Pro because more than likely someone has already written decent code for you to modify.
The next step is server security. Sure these plugins have issues, but why is the server not helping stop more of this? I am working on this with as part of the aforementioned project.
After I beat the bots back with a big long stick, I will continue hardening my firewall and stricter folder security. Some folders in WP should never be written to unless... The Unless is what I am determining and how to toggle write on and off for verified activities in specific folders.

If you are interested. I have a anti-bot tool, in beta testing, that I would like to share with you. Bot Watch Diagnostic Tool. Yep needs a better name.

Don't you hate when you pull up to a red light some guy jumps out pretends hes cleaning the windshield of the car in front of you and you have to wait for the car in front to move before you can go.
