Demonetization is often used as a threat and control tactic. You'll hear a lot of tubers say something like "I'd mention 'X,' but I'll get demonetized" or "I'd post the combat footage, but I'll be demonetized." It's gaslighting and drives tubers insane.BrasSmonkey wrote: ↑March 30th, 2023, 2:37 pmwhy would anyone turn down that kind of offer???HighOctaneHeart wrote: ↑March 30th, 2023, 2:32 pmAnd if you get approached by YouTube for monetization, accept it. An associate of mine was coming up fast on YouTube, they recognized it, but he turned down their monetization offer. The first time he appealed a flag for content, YouTube realized he used up a lot of bandwidth, but they didn't make money off it, so they completely banned him.
His content is about fetish, BDSM, and the LGBTQ+ community, and while there was no porn, the discussion gets controversial. He used his own sponsors instead, and it was working because he had good numbers.
In addition, YouTube has placed ads in conflict with the content. For example, I'd tune in and get ads for something like Prager U or Epoch Times. That's definitely not what he wanted running over his material. It's like paid trolling.
